The Mundus master’s program “Education, Migration, and Diversity” will welcome a diverse and international group of students, and you will shape our program with your different backgrounds and experiences. So welcome.
Application procedure
We offer two options for studying for our master's degree:
Scholarship Holders
Every year, we have the opportunity to provide scholarships for about 10 non-EU citizens and 7 EU citizens
(depending on the applications)
Self-funded Students
We also have 8-10 study places yearly for European and non-European self-funded students.

All successful candidates (both scholarship holders and self-funded students) have to pass a two-step process consisting of the following:

An online interview with pre-selected candidates
The steering committee, consisting of elected members from the three universities (University of Education Schwäbisch Gmünd, University of Calabria, University of Gävle), will evaluate submitted applications, decide transparently and impartially by applying a set catalog of criteria, and inform candidates about the acceptance or rejection.
Moreover, we will base the acceptance on Erasmus Mundus regulations; we can only accept two candidates from one country. We can offer more scholarships to applicants from regions targeted by the Master Mundus program, such as Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East.

Candidates who have applied for scholarships but have not been accepted can be considered for the second application process.
Entry requirements
The program builds upon a first degree, such as a bachelor's degree (or equivalent qualification) in a field related to EDU_MIG, such as social sciences, history, cultural studies, educational sciences, or applied linguistics; a bachelor in teacher education is also possible.
The final grade of the first degree should be a minimum (or equivalent) of C+ and proven by certificates.
At EDU_MIG, we value multilingualism; being able to speak multiple languages is an asset we consider when selecting applicants.
Preference will also be given to qualified applicants with relevant professional experience in the field, which can have been gained through jobs, internships, or voluntary work.
Your last degree should have been obtained within 5 years. If it is older, please explain why you chose to return to university in your motivation letter.
EDU_MIG qualifies students for a master's degree. If you already hold one, you should convincingly justify the reasons for wanting to pursue a new master's degree in your motivation letter.
Interested applicants who have already benefited from an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) scholarship are not eligible to apply for an additional scholarship.

A recognized 3- or 4-year bachelor’s or master’s degree from a higher education institution or a certified transcript of records indicating that the bachelor will be finished at the time of the enrolment in the master's program. A certified translation into English is required for languages other than English, French, German, Italian, and Swedish.

High school diploma (secondary school leaving certificate, e.g., Baccalaureate, A- Levels) or equivalent and high school transcripts (and a certified translation into English for languages other than English, French, German, Italian, and Swedish.

Proof of nationality (copy of passport or passport replacement document; identity will be verified during the interview). Please provide a certified translation into English for languages other than English, French, German, Italian, and Swedish.

Minimum Level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR); language proficiency can be demonstrated by passing an internationally recognized exam that was completed no more than two years before the application for the degree program was submitted or through equivalent evidence. The following language diplomas meet the requirements:

UNIcert: at least Level III;

Cambridge English Scale: at least 180 points;

IELTS Academic ("International English Language Testing System“): with at least Band 7.0;

"Test of English as a Foreign Language,” internet-based test (TOEFL iBT) with at least 95 points;

Global Scale of English (Pearson Academic): with at least 76 points;

Language proficiency can alternatively be demonstrated through the following qualifications:

A bachelor's, master's, licentiate, or doctoral degree in English from a state- recognized higher education institution

Selection Criteria
The evaluation criteria for applicants to the master's program are as follows:

Final grade of the first degree. The first degree must be obtained in a field related to EDU_MIG.

Motivation letter.
-
Relevant professional experience in a field related to EDU_MIG, which can have been gained through jobs, internships, or volunteer work.

For each criterion, a numerical grade is given. The final grade is calculated as a weighted sum of the grades for each criterion. Applicants with high grades will be invited to an interview. The interview will also be graded and calculated into the final grade. Students are ranked according to their final grade.
Appeal Procedure
Due to the substantial number of applications, we cannot provide individual feedback on the reasons for declined applications and/or negative scholarship decisions. Declined applicants are welcome to reapply for the following academic year.
If you believe a significant error was made in assessing your application, you may submit a letter of appeal to the reviewing committee. The appeal cannot relate to the decision itself, which is usually negative, but rather to an alleged error made during the procedure that led to the contested decision.
The letter of appeal should entail your name, your passport number, the date of application, an official statement for which reason you want to appeal, as well as your official signature. Please send the letter as a pdf.
The letter of appeal must be written and emailed to Marijana Totic (marijana.totic@ph-gmuend.de) within one month of receiving the selection results. Please note that the appeal procedure will not consider any information other than what is mentioned in your application form (e.g., further education, experiences, certificates, or documents).

After acceptance
We are pleased to welcome you as part of the EDU_MIG program.
We will help you obtain all the necessary visa documents if you need assistance.
During the EDU_MIG master program, you will be enrolled at the University of Education Schwäbisch Gmünd in Germany for 24 months.
For the study visits to all other program universities, you will obtain the status of exchange students.
We are also committed to assist you with finding housing in all of EDU_MIG locations.
